Guadalupe River Flooding: Kerrville & Texas Hill Country Updates

The Guadalupe River rose 32 feet in four hours near Kerrville, triggering a Flash Flood Emergency. NWS warns of a crest similar to the deadly July 2025 flood.

Climate

The Guadalupe River is surging through Kerr County. The river gauge at Center Point rose 32 feet in four hours, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Emergency for the Kerrville area. The NWS warns the crest could rival the July 4, 2025 flood, which claimed 119 lives in Kerr County.

Water rescues are ongoing across the Hill Country. Residents in Kerrville, Ingram, and Center Point are trapped by floodwaters. Shelters have opened. In Comfort, officials urge residents to seek higher ground as the Guadalupe River continues to rise after flooding in Boerne.

The situation escalated rapidly on July 15. Between 7:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., an additional 2.5 inches of rain fell, according to hourly readings from the Center Point gauge. At one point, the river rose 16 feet in 30 minutes.

Road closures are widespread across Kerr County. At 10.0 feet — bankfull stage — lower bridges on the north and south forks of the Guadalupe along Highway 39 and FM 1341 become impassable. At 7.0 feet, flow extends over low sections of the riverbank.

The flooding is part of a larger severe weather pattern. Edwards, Real, and Uvalde counties are under Tornado Warnings. Flash Flood Warnings are widespread west of San Antonio. The same storm system is causing flash flooding in Uvalde County, where a separate Flash Flood Emergency has been issued.

For those following the situation, our earlier report on Kerrville flooding and the Flash Flood Emergency provides additional context. The broader Texas weather pattern, including tornado warnings in Edwards and Real counties, continues to pose risks.

A flood warning is also in effect for the Guadalupe River at Hunt, where minor flooding is forecast. The crest is expected above flood stage Thursday morning. Rain has eased somewhat in Kerrville, but the Center Point gauge shows the sharpest rise yet, and more rain is in the forecast.

The memory of July 4, 2025, hangs over this event. At a Symphony of the Hills performance on the Fourth of July this year, Gov. Greg Abbott attended a ceremony honoring the 119 people who died in Kerr County on that date one year prior.

Major water rescues are underway across the Texas Hill Country as flash flooding traps residents in homes. Officials warn that another round of heavy rain is on the way. The NWS continues to monitor the situation closely. Residents in low-lying areas are urged to stay informed and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
