MoonPay Launches AI Crypto Trading Agent on Telegram

MoonPay launches MoonAgents, an AI assistant on Telegram that lets users trade crypto using natural language commands like 'swap $200 for Bitcoin'. Over a billion users can now trade via conversation.

Business and Finance

MoonPay has launched MoonAgents, an AI assistant integrated with Telegram that lets users trade cryptocurrencies using plain English commands. The tool is now live on the messaging platform, which already hosts billions of dollars in crypto volume through mini apps and trading bots.

How MoonAgents Works

Instead of learning specific syntax or navigating menus, users simply type requests such as "swap $200 for Bitcoin" or "what's ETH at right now?" to their agent in Telegram. The AI interprets the command, prepares the transaction, and asks for user confirmation before executing. This design removes the friction that typically accompanies crypto trading on mobile devices.

Most existing Telegram trading tools require users to memorize command formats or work through layered interfaces. MoonAgents flips that model by making conversation the primary interface. As Ivan Soto-Wright, co-founder and CEO of MoonPay, put it: "MoonAgents on Telegram reflects where we think crypto is heading... people want to manage their assets through natural conversation."

Telegram's Crypto-Ready User Base

Telegram has over a billion users, with hundreds of millions logging in daily. The platform has become a hub for crypto activity: mini apps and trading tools collectively move billions of dollars in volume. MoonAgents plugs directly into this ecosystem, meeting users where they already transact.

The assistant processes the request, fetches current market data, and presents a detailed preview before any trade is executed. Users can approve, modify, or cancel the transaction. This confirmation step ensures that the AI does not act autonomously, preserving user control.

Broader Implications for Crypto Accessibility

By eliminating the need for specialized knowledge, MoonAgents lowers the barrier to entry for crypto trading. The natural language interface makes it accessible to Telegram's broader user base, many of whom may be unfamiliar with exchange interfaces or command-line tools.

MoonPay's move aligns with a trend toward conversational commerce in financial services. As AI models improve, more platforms are expected to embed natural language interfaces for complex tasks. MoonAgents is an early example of this shift in the crypto space.

The integration also hints at future capabilities: MoonPay could extend MoonAgents to support portfolio analysis, alerts, or multi-step strategies—all through dialogue. For now, the focus is on simple swaps and price checks, but the architecture can scale.

Telegram's openness to third-party bots has made it a fertile ground for innovation. MoonAgents joins a growing list of AI-powered tools vying for users' attention on the platform. The challenge will be maintaining trust and reliability as the user base scales.
