Police Release Images of Two Men in Hackney Murder Investigation

Met Police release names and images of Cavalli Harriott and Jayqwan Stevens-Burke in connection with the fatal stabbing of Elijah Seriki in Hackney. Public appeal for information.

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man in Hackney have released the names and photographs of two men they wish to speak to as part of their enquiries. The Metropolitan Police confirmed on 18 July 2026 that they are looking to locate Cavalli Harriott, aged 22, from Hackney, and Jayqwan Stevens-Burke, aged 23, who frequents both Hackney and Grays, Essex.

The appeal follows the death of Elijah Seriki, who was found with stab wounds on Andre Street, Hackney, at around 1.40pm on Monday, 13 July. He died a short time later in nearby Hackney Downs. A forensics tent was erected at the Hackney Downs Road entrance overnight, and investigators were seen gathering evidence in the park and surrounding streets the following day. The stabbing occurred near Mossbourne Community Academy.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, who is leading the investigation, said: "We continue to carry out extensive enquiries to build up a picture of the events of that afternoon. We are now appealing to the public to help us progress our investigation and would urge anyone who knows the whereabouts of Cavalli Harriott and/or Jayqwan Stevens-Burke to contact police."

Mayor of Hackney Zoe Garbett described the death as "shocking and saddening," adding: "We know that our residents will be worried and upset, and we are offering our support to those affected by this incident. Our teams are ready to provide assistance to the police in their investigation as needed."

The forensics tent was set up metres from where children usually play, underscoring the impact on the local community. The police have urged anyone with information to call 101 with reference 4139/13Jul or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

This case highlights the ongoing challenge of knife crime in London. For more information on police procedures in such investigations, visit the Met Police murder appeals page. The investigation remains active, and police are continuing to build a picture of the events that led to the stabbing. Anyone who sees Cavalli Harriott or Jayqwan Stevens-Burke is advised not to approach them but to contact police immediately.
