Birthright Citizenship Supreme Court: What's at Stake?
President Trump will ask the Supreme Court to rehear the birthright citizenship case after a 6-3 ruling upheld the 14th Amendment right, but history suggests rehearings are rarely granted.
Analysis of Trump's unscheduled RAF Mildenhall visit for an Air Force One swap, the security measures and logistics.
President Donald Trump made an unscheduled stop at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk on his return from the NATO summit in Ankara, swapping his aircraft mid-journey. He flew from Turkey to the UK aboard an older Air Force One model, while a newer plane gifted by Qatar was sent ahead to Mildenhall for military personnel to tour. Reporters on the older plane were asked to keep window blinds drawn. When asked about threats, Trump said: “I have a threat all the time. I’m number one on their list.”
The instruction to lower window blinds is a standard precaution for high-value aircraft. Using an older plane for the Ankara-to-Mildenhall leg introduced unpredictability. Trump stated the switch was “for old time’s sake” and to allow service members to tour the new plane. Earlier that day, the BBC reported US strikes on Iran and a funeral for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to the BBC, Trump made the stop at RAF Mildenhall—a US Air Force installation in Suffolk—where the new plane was already waiting. Trump posted on Truth Social that sending the new plane to Mildenhall caused “virtually no deviation of flightpath.” The older plane landed, the president deplaned briefly to address personnel, and then boarded the newer aircraft for the remaining flight to Washington.
RAF Mildenhall celebrated the event on social media, calling it “a memorable moment for Team Mildenhall.” Images show Airmen gathered around the new aircraft. Trump’s Truth Social posts emphasized that the plane was sent early so service members could tour it: “To honor our brave men and women of the Military, we are sending the brand new, and truly spectacular, Air Force One to Mildenhall Air Force Base … to give them a chance to tour the Aircraft.”
Trump’s off-script stop at RAF Mildenhall was more than a photo opportunity—it was a demonstration of presidential travel logistics under the shadow of credible threats.
