When you open the app, you're essentially launching a hidden browser session. In Task Manager, the app spawns up to eight Chromium-based subprocesses—each consuming memory for rendering, JavaScript, and background tasks. That's why a simple weather display can balloon to nearly 1.2GB of RAM even when you're not interacting with it.
This isn't an isolated case. Microsoft has adopted WebView2 for many of its built-in apps, and the taskbar's news-and-weather widgets have been criticized for similar memory hogging.
