Xbox Showcase 2026 delivered major reveals including Avowed's November release date, Project Mystique hybrid console, and Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War landing day one on Game Pass.
Obsidian Entertainment finally locked a release date for Avowed during the Xbox Showcase 2026. The highly anticipated fantasy RPG will ship in November 2026 and land day one on Game Pass for console, PC, and cloud. A new gameplay trailer showcased the Living Lands — a vibrant, reactive world filled with factions, magic, and deep character customization.
“Avowed is our most ambitious RPG yet,” said studio head Feargus Urquhart during the presentation. “We wanted to deliver the freedom of classic PC RPGs with the polish of a modern blockbuster.”
Avowed’s day-one Game Pass launch continues Microsoft’s first-party strategy, following similar moves by Starfield and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, which also arrives on the service. For subscribers, November shapes up to be a defining month.
Microsoft surprised the audience by unveiling Project Mystique, a hybrid console designed to bridge home console power with handheld portability. The device features a custom AMD chip with dedicated ray tracing hardware, a 2TB NVMe SSD, and a detachable 8-inch 120Hz display that allows seamless transition between docked and portable play.
“Project Mystique is for gamers who refuse to compromise,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “We’re building a device that delivers Series X-level performance in a form factor you can take anywhere.”
Project Mystique signals Xbox’s hardware diversification beyond traditional consoles, positioning itself against both the Steam Deck and a potential Nintendo Switch 2. It also aligns with Microsoft’s cloud-first strategy — the device can stream Xbox Cloud Gaming titles natively when away from the dock.
Treyarch pulled back the curtain on Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, set during the early 1990s conflict. The game features a grounded campaign following a multi-perspective narrative, with classic Black Ops twists and espionage themes. More significantly, the title was confirmed as a day-one Game Pass release across console, PC, and cloud — a tectonic shift for the franchise.
“This is the biggest change in Call of Duty history,” said an industry analyst during the showcase reaction panel. “Putting a 70-dollar game on a subscription service on launch day reshapes the value of both Game Pass and Call of Duty.”
The announcement marks the first time a mainline Call of Duty enters a subscription service on day one, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. With Nintendo Direct June 2026 also showing strong third-party support, subscription gaming continues to evolve rapidly.
The Xbox Showcase 2026 will be remembered as the event where Microsoft laid out its multi-hardware future. Between Avowed’s concrete release, the promise of portable Xbox consoles, and Call of Duty joining Game Pass, the company is betting big on breadth and subscription value.
