iPhone 18 Pro Rumors: 12 New Features & Release Date Leaks (2026)

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are two months away. Here are the 12 biggest rumored features, from a smaller Dynamic Island to a 2nm A20 Pro chip.

Technology

With roughly two months until Apple's expected September event, the rumor mill around the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is running at full speed. A massive hack of internal Apple documents, reported to include supplier details and test records, has only accelerated the flow of leaks. While nothing is confirmed until Apple takes the stage, the pattern of credible reports has sharpened into a clear picture of what the next Pro iPhones will likely offer.

Here are the 12 most significant rumored features for the iPhone 18 Pro models, based on the most substantiated leaks so far.

1. Smaller Dynamic Island

The most visible change may be a smaller Dynamic Island. Rumors indicate that Apple will move the Face ID flood illuminator under the display on the Pro models, shrinking the cutout at the top of the screen. This would be the first reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island since its introduction.

2. LTPO+ Display Technology

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro, but the panels themselves are rumored to use a new LTPO+ technology. The upgrade is said to improve power efficiency, contributing to longer battery life without changing the physical design.

3. Variable Aperture Main Camera

Both Pro models are rumored to include a variable aperture on the main 48-megapixel Fusion camera. This would allow users to control the amount of light reaching the sensor, giving more control over depth of field. Given the physical constraints of a smartphone camera, the real-world benefit remains debated, but it would be a first for an iPhone.

4. A20 Pro Chip on 2nm Process

Apple's next-generation A20 Pro chip is expected to be built on TSMC's first-generation 2nm process, a significant jump from the 3nm process used in the A19 Pro. A smaller process node typically brings performance gains and improved power efficiency, though specific benchmarks are not yet available.

5. 5G via Satellite

Among the connectivity upgrades, the iPhone 18 Pro is rumored to support 5G via satellite, expanding cellular-like connectivity to areas without terrestrial towers. This would build on the existing satellite-based emergency SOS features.

6. Revised Lineup and Release Timeline

Apple is reportedly splitting the iPhone 18 family into two launch waves. The flagship models — iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumored foldable iPhone Ultra — are expected to be unveiled in the first half of September and released in the second half. The base iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and second-generation iPhone Air are reportedly delayed until around March 2027.

7. New Colors: Cherry Red and Light Blue

Leakers including Sonny Dickson and Instant Digital have pointed to two new color options for the Pro models: a never-before-seen cherry red and a light blue. These would join the standard lineup of finishes, though Apple has not confirmed any color choices.

8. Design Continuity with iPhone 17 Pro

The overall design is expected to remain similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, including the camera "plateau" and two-tone color scheme introduced last year. Apple is not expected to overhaul the exterior, focusing instead on internal and display upgrades.

9. Potential Price Increase Due to RAM Shortage

Industry-wide RAM shortages, driven by AI demand and referred to as "RAMageddon," are putting upward pressure on component costs. Apple raised prices on several other product lines recently but has not yet increased iPhone pricing. Analysts expect a price hike for the iPhone 18 Pro, though no specific figure has been confirmed.

10. Massive Internal Document Hack

A significant security breach reportedly exposed thousands of Apple's internal documents, including details about iPhone 18 Pro suppliers and testing procedures. The hack has accelerated the pace of leaks and may have revealed features Apple had not yet intended to disclose.

11. New CEO John Ternus Takes the Stage

John Ternus is set to become Apple's CEO on September 1, 2026. He is widely expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro lineup at the September event, marking the first major product launch under his leadership.

12. iOS 27

The iPhone 18 Pro will ship with iOS 27, the next major version of Apple's mobile operating system. Specific features of iOS 27 have not been detailed in the current leaks, but it will be the software foundation for the new hardware.

Release Date and Pricing

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra in the first half of September, with a release in the second half of the month. The base iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are reportedly delayed until spring 2027. Pricing remains uncertain, but an industry-wide RAM shortage ("RAMageddon") may lead to a price increase. Apple raised prices on other product lines recently but has not yet increased iPhone pricing.

What to Watch For

With two months until the expected unveiling, the rumor flow will only intensify. The combination of a smaller Dynamic Island, variable aperture camera, and 2nm chip represents a meaningful generational leap, even if the external design stays familiar. Pricing remains the biggest open question, especially given the industry-wide memory shortage. For now, these 12 features form the most credible outline of what the iPhone 18 Pro will deliver.
